The league consists of ten teams from Michigan and Wisconsin who complete in 10 smallbore postal matches between January and April. A postal match is a competition in which entrants fire separately on their home ranges and exchange scores. The course of fire consists of 40-shot matches fired in four different positions (prone, standing, sitting, kneeling). Team scoring is completed using a handicap system. Each shooter is assigned a handicap equal to 60% of the difference between a perfect score (400) and his/her average of previous matches. This handicap is added to the actual score fired. The team score consists of the four shooters with the highest adjusted score. For matches 2-10, all teams compete against each other, earning a win for each team they outscore.
The mission of the GVSU Shooting Club is to provide students with the opportunity to participate in shooting sports, including three position smallbore rifle and precision air rifle. All equipment, including rifles and ammunition, is provided.
